India is the world's largest successful democracy and also a country which not only abodes the holy concept of human rights but also ensures its actual implementation both in letter and spirit. To invite an interesting debate and to explore the plethora of issues relating to Democracy and Human Rights at World's forum, an International Conference on Democracy and Human Rights' was organized which was inaugurated by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Shri. Ramesh D. Dhanuka, Judge, Bombay High Court in the presence of Hon'ble Prof. Henry J. Steiner, Professor of Law, Harvard Law School, Hon'ble Prof. Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Vice Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University New Law College, Pune. Hon'ble Shri. G. Jayakumar, Registrar, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University and other esteemed invitees, participants & renowned dignitaries.


Many advocates, academicians, research scholars and students attended the Conference in large number. Hon'ble Mr. Justice R.D. Dhanuka, Judge, Bombay High Court advocated the need for sensitizing the issues of human rights and the dominant role to be played by the lawyers. Prof. Henry Steiner gave an in depth analysis of the subject and stressed on the need to draft an international convention on 'Democracy' by virtue of which human rights of millions may be protected.
